Poll: Which webcomic makes great material for a new animated series?

Back in the days when Matt Wilson was creating the webtoon series, Bonus Stage, he threw in a joke where the characters were getting excited about webcomics getting their own shows. The characters excitedly gab about Queen Of Wands and Penny Arcade.

Well, that day is finally upon us, as Axe Cop got the green light on Fox’s Saturday Night animation block. So, heroes, I bring the question to you: what other webcomic would make for a good animated series?

About El Santo

Somehow ended up reading and reviewing almost 300 different webcomics. Life is funny, huh? Despite owning two masks, is not actually a luchador.

  1. I know it’s not the best, but I think they should turn Two Kinds into a film trilogy. Like the Avatar. Considering that it’s on Keenspot, it could actually happen.

  2. I think Cucumber Quest would make a great cartoon for kids. It has a fun, semi-self aware little world. I could image it being like Adventure Time or Futurama, where episodes could revolve around strange encounters, letting the writters get creative while keeping the characters interesting and livey.

  3. I voted for Girl Genius. There’s so much content there to work from. Gunnerkrig would be suitable for other reasons, namely the court itself is practically a plot generator.

  4. Lackadaisy, because it would be a great excuse to hear stuff like squirrel nut zippers again. Plus, damn that art would make for awesome animation.

  5. So You’re A Cartoonist but done in an anime style

    • So instead of being about a whiny jerk who can’t draw and write as well as he thinks it would be about a whiny jerk who can’t draw and write as well as he thinks. Animated. Brilliant!

  6. An animated series is definitely not a joke, and I have no intention of making light of it. And it can be a tough and emotional thing for a webcomic to go through, speaking from personal experience. And I know that it’s often much harder on the cartoonist than on the animators. However, I also know that it doesn’t necessarily turn you into a sad, depressed sack of cels for the rest of your life. People can move past it, and heal.

  7. Ah, it’s tough to choose just one! I’m saying “Delilah Dirk” because that’s the one I’d be most excited to watch. She’s like the girl Indiana Jones, but more combat-oriented, and equally as hilarious when she fails (take that, Lara Croft!). She doesn’t have Indy’s depth and gravitas, but Selim could grow to provide some of that. Plus, a boat that flies. Can’t go wrong there.

That and “Dr. McNinja” probably have the highest chances of success. “Gunnerkrigg Court” could be amazing and I’d love to watch it, but it might be a harder sell. Still, it could tap into the Harry Potter demographic, potentially.

My favorite webcomic is “Lackadaisy,” but I think it might work better as an animated feature film rather than an episodic show.

And I haven’t read “Girl Genius” yet. Still working through Ursula Vernon’s “Digger.”

  8. Questionable Content!

  9. Magellan – magellanverse.com – probably not suitable for kiddies, maybe more Adult Swim as there’s a little bit of swearing, violence, horror and (gasp) nudity.

  10. why not a MAD style cartoon with several webcomics in it???????
Since a lot of webcomics are short strip gags

  11. RedstoneSystem

I would say Paranatural, though it’s not there. :<

  12. Just imagine the opportunity with Gunnerkrigg! Adorable Shadow 2 all other again! Twists! Turns! Happiness!

  13. Lackadaisy has some potential artistically. If put into animation, there wouldn’t be any change artistically due to the author’s immense and thorough work on the expressions and movement of characters.

  14. I think the admin of this website is genuinely working hard in support of his web page, since here every material is quality based stuff.
